Batterilagret – a strategic addition with a strong market position
Batterilagret is Alligo’s largest acquisition since the Group was formed in 2021. The company is a leading battery specialist in Sweden, with its head office in Kungälv and a nationwide store network of 27 stores. Batterilagret has approximately 90 employees and annual revenue of around MSEK 275.
– We are specialists in batteries, an area that places high demands on the technical knowledge of our sales staff, which can be difficult for a generalist to meet. In addition, we have product development where we continuously monitor new technologies and test products internally, says Christer Åkerman, CEO of Batterilagret.
A non-integrated business within Alligo
To preserve the specialist expertise and the business model that has built Batterilagret’s success, the company is operated as a non-integrated business within Alligo.
– We continue to operate the business using the same model as before. There were some changes in management when the previous owners left in connection with the acquisition, and sustainability requirements have increased. In these areas, we have received support from Alligo to smoothly put the new organisation in place and meet the new sustainability requirements. Otherwise, operations have continued as usual and we continued to grow with good profitability during 2025, says Christer Åkerman.
Since its founding in 1998, Batterilagret has grown organically with profitability. Alligo sees significant value in preserving the unique knowledge, clear customer focus and technical expertise that exist within the business.
Strong store network and continued growth opportunities
With 27 stores, Batterilagret is a leading player in battery sales in Sweden. The store network has been built up gradually using the company’s own capital and forms the core of the business.
– The stores are by far our most important sales channel. We also have ecommerce and knowledgeable field sales representatives, but almost all of our sales take place in stores. Availability and local store presence are crucial when the need for a new battery arises, explains Christer Åkerman.
Many batteries are heavy and bulky and, in some cases, such as lithium batteries, classified as hazardous goods, which makes them difficult to transport. Storage, however, is relatively straightforward, and therefore Batterilagret’s stores stock the full product range, which is an important success factor.
Despite a strong market position, there are continued opportunities to establish operations in new locations in the Nordic region.
– Together with Alligo, we are reviewing opportunities for new establishments. Stockholm is one example of an attractive area where we currently have no stores. Competition can make it challenging to gain visibility in new locations. One way to address this could be to open new Batterilagret stores adjacent to existing Swedol or Tools stores. At the same time, we continue to focus on smaller locations where it is easier to become a leading local player, a concept that has made Batterilagret successful and profitable, elaborates Christer Åkerman.
– We see continued strong potential for profitable growth within the technology area of batteries in the Nordic region. This makes Batterilagret, as a leading specialist and a wellmanaged company with long experience, a strategically important acquisition for us says Clein Johansson Ullenvik, President and CEO of Alligo.
